Kentucky News: Kentucky Falling Food Prices

Kentucky, food prices doubled over the past three months, an additional burden on farmers of the state, according to the report published Tuesday in the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation.

The cost of 40-grocery base fell 17.9 per cent during the period from April to July, for a total of $ 102.26.

The average price of a liter of milk in July was $ 2.86, to 21 cents in April, on average. A gallon of ice cream fell 59 cents for the quarter and 24-piece package of American cheese was down 53 cents.

The average price of rib eye steak fell to $ 9.95 per pound to $ 8.57 and the average pounds of beef fell by 31 cents.

The average price of products, including corn, potatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers and tomatoes, was 8.7 percent. The exception was the price for a pound of Red Delicious apples, which is 16 cents.

On average, farmers in the Kentucky part of the retail food dollar are about 19 cents, according to the report.
