@Aeschylus You do not know what you are talking about. A starting teacher does not make 50,000. Sounds to me you should have gone to college. I can understand how you feel but with you working at Walmart as a cashier can be trying at times. Go to Obama.gov and there is free money for you to go to college on me the tax payer and you too can become a teacher and make 50,000 a year. But you probably love your job at Walmart.

Kasich is going to hate life when his corrupt ass is sitting behind bars and the only people that are keeping his ass safe are the union correction officers that he screwed over.

John Kasich’s push to have Senate Bill 5 (scribbled by Shannon Jones) written into law, is a direct statement to all of Ohio’s workforce- “We want it ALL”. If you don’t know what this bill is about, I suggest you read it. It can be found at legislature dot state dot OH dot US

HAIL SATAN ! HAIL FOX NEWS !

    I agree with the Governor.

After all, teachers caused the economic collapse.

    Teachers are PIGS !

Unionized firefighters are lazy, overpaid SCUM !

They agreed to pay cuts, but we need to take any remaining scrap of power away.

Pensions and overtime are for PIGS! We need that money for tax cuts for the wealthy!

HAIL SATAN! HAIL FOX NEWS! HAIL SATAN ! HAIL FOX NEWS !

    HURRAY! HURRAY! Goooo FOX! Go!

@glockguy9mm Obviously your teachers should have been paid a little more. Your grammar is deplorable. Have you ever heard of a verb? I think the one you were looking for was “is.” Am I correct?

@Champion385 Um, thanks for the career advice (actually, I have an MPhil from Oxford and am working on my doctorate, but I appreciate your willingness to help). Whatever the beginning pay, teachers in Milwaukee (where per capita income is just over $19K) will average this year $56,500 in salary and another $43,500 in benefits. You can hear the official figures read out here: /watch?v=9x2N4bDmzdc (about forty-five seconds in).
As for “free money”, no such thing exists.

teachers deserve better pay. let’s not demonize teachers or scapegoat them for what ails us. my sister is an unrepentant capitalist and damn right she wants better pay than private sector workers. don’t punish her for wanting money.

Governor you’re doing a GREAT job it time these unions get put in their place. These teachers are way overpaid it time to give back.

I don’t think teachers are overpaid; but I do believe that the government employee unions have far too much power, and keep states and localities bound to promises that cannot be kept at the expense of all tax payers. Union employees need to be brought into the new economic reality.

I do think teachers are overpaid. Nine months out of the year, with just a bachelor’s degree (or a worthless master’s in “education”), making 50K in salary and another 50K in benefits, with tenure after just three years? Where’s the accountability? Government schools are a scam.

Teachers know that there are very good on line programs for teaching kids these days.

Technology is changing our entire world and we need to wake up to the fact that there isn’t going to be many jobs in the future.

The politicians don’t tell you that but that is what’s happening. By 2050 half of our workforce will be out of a job.

    What will we do?

We don’t know at all what education should cost because none of it is in direct competition with the private sector, and nobody has incentive to find out what costs are truly unnecessary and then cut them. It’s a guessing and crying game, so the way to hold the line is to truly pay teachers dirt and let the ones who love the profession chase out the ones who were lured by the excessive modern union benefits.

Governor, start talking about total compensation and you won’t look like such a buffoon. You yourself had to pay your own people tens of thousands of dollars more than your predecessor because evidently the benefits ain’t all that good.
