Can we trust that the Japanese Government and our Nuclear Regulatory Commission will give us the true story about whether the West Coast of the US will be effected by radiation? If we are exposed to radiation, what can the common man do to protect against exposure or health consequences? We need to get rid of all the nuclear plants asap! We don’t know what the earth may do (volcano’s) and unlike other kind of power plants that could blow – they won’t damage the environment for millions of years

You could speed up the press briefings with your video editor. That’s what Fred does.

I wish more would be said on what to do about the irresponsible behavior of the republicans in Wisconsin!!!! I wish people would wake up and realize that the republican party is essentually at war against the middle class!!!! They are taking it out on our neighbors who happen to be educators, police, and fire fighters!! The repubs need to be all voted out of office, and replaced by good Democrats, like the ones we had before the mid term elections!!!!

@FutureRob If I lived on the West Coast, I would have already ordered the Potassium Iodide. It is a relatively inexpensive supplement, and can be ordered off the internet. It causes no harm to the body. What it does is flood the Thyroid with iodine, so that if radioactive iodine is inhaled or ingested, it will simply be eliminated by the body. You see, the thyroid gland is very sensitive to radioactive isotopes, so the radiation will likely cause cellular mutations, AKA thyroid cancer.

Nuclear power doesn’t have a future. Its too dangerous. Japanese engineers have the most advanced nuclear technology. Their plants are built to withstand quakes and tsunamis and though the worst has happen.

Implementing a NFZ will not change the eventual outcome of the conflict but it would likely prolong the conflict and extract a higher collateral as Gadaffi would relie on his artillery and armor effecting the same outcome .A gunship is eyes on ,while artillery is a calculation with risk. Armor is line of sight ,normally and will be deployed regardless of any UN decission. The rebels were foolish to start the conflict based upon the conditions, continuing the revolt is even more foolish.

is there no protocall at these breifings about reporters coughing vocally during another reporter’s question? Seems a bit rude and distracting and often done purposefully. Or is it a heads up from others that this question is rediculous? You’d think you professional reporters could control your bodily functions a little better.

@vickiormindyb Mixed oxide, or MOX fuel, is nuclear fuel containing more than one oxide of fissile or fertile materials. Specifically, it usually refers to a blend of oxides of plutonium and natural uranium, reprocessed uranium, or depleted uranium (eg 7% Pu, 93% U) which behaves similarly (though not identically) to the low-enriched uranium oxide fuel for which most nuclear reactors were designed.

@groundhog2008 I wondered how that worked. I already have been taking Iodine supplementation after recently reading a book called “Iodine Why you Need It Why You Can’t Live Without it” by David Brownstein, M.D. Thanks for the tip. I wonder if the area around the plant were ever be inhabitable again; for the next 10,000 year’s anyway?
